    Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today we are going to visit the Longmen Grottoes. We will leave Zhengzhou at 8 o’clock and arrived at Luoyang Longmen Grottoes around 10. The tour of Longmen Grottoes will take us about 2 hours, later at noon will have meal in Downtown Luoyang City. Luoyang is famous for being capitals of 13 dynasties. The city is located on the northern bank of the Luohe River, and faces the sun, so it got the name—Luoyang. Luoyang is an highly developed tourist city, there are Longmen Grottoes, White Horse Temple and the Guanlin Monastery. Luoyang Peony Fair Festival also attracts many tourists from all over the world every year in April and May. Since Tang Dynasty, Luoyang Peony has been considered as the best peony on earth. And peony is also the symbol of the city.

And now I have a question for you. Do you know there are three Treasure Houses of Stone Sculptures in China? Have you seen any of them? According to the schedule, this morning we will visit one of them and one of the World Cultural Heritage. It is located 13 km south of Luoyang, on the bank the Yi River. Longmen in English means “Dragon Gate”. Although in Western Culture dragon was considered as monster who can perish human by blowing fire from his mouth, in China Dragon is regarded as a sacred creature, in the old time, emperor of the country used to call himself Real Dragon. And we Chinese always say that we are descendants of Dragons. So when Emperor Suiyang of Sui dynasty built his capital here in Luoyang, there is the Gate of the city, so he named the hill where the Grottoes were located, Longmen. Longmen grottoes is a Buddhism Grottoes, it’s also called “Temple Grottoes.”

The grottoes were started around the year 493 when Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) moved the capital to Luoyang and were continuously built for 400 years until the Northern Song Dynasty

The Longmen Grottoes prolong for 1,000 meters from north to south where there are over 2,300 holes and niches, 2,800 steles, 40 pagodas, 1,300 caves and 100,000 statues. They were mostly created by artists of Northern Wei and the Sui-Tang periods.

Okay that’s all for the brief introduction, when we arrive at Longmen Grottoes, we will find out more of this famous place of interests.

    讲解词

Now that we finally arrived at Longmen Grottoes, let's go and find out more about this place of interest. Once we got in, the first grotto we saw is the Qianxi Temple, located at the northern edge of Western Hill, was built in the early Tang Dynasty around 640AD. In the middle it's Buddha Amitabha and his pupils one each side, two bodhisattvas, the goddess of mercy and the great-force gainer and two heavenly king accompany them on both sides. They seems full and round, it may not be quite appealing to people nowadays, but in dynasty Tang fullness and roundness were considered as symbol of beauty.

Now in front of us are the Binyang Caves. Northern Wei Dynasty constructed a series of lager scale caves, which are the northern, southern, and middle Binyang Caves. The middle cave, is the only one that finished during period of the Northern Wei. There are 11 big statues in the cave. Sakyamuni is of dignified and serene appearance, while his disciple and Bodhisattva are of slender figure and elegant look, which are the typical style of the late Northern Wei Dynasty. The floor is engraved with lotus patterns, so is the rooftop. The South Binyang Cave was completed in the late Sui dynasty, and the North Cave in the early Tang, each with a style of their own days.

At the middle segment of West Hill, hollowed in the half way of the cliff, there is a cave with over 15,000 Buddhist images measuring 4 cm high, so it is named the Ten-thousand Buddha cave. The main Buddha Amitabha sits on the lotus throne, having a composed and solemn face. The wall behind Amida is carved with 54 lotuses upon which there are 54 Bodhisattvas in different shapes and with various expressions.

Lotus Cave was built on the base of the natural caves during North Wei dynasty. Differing from sitting statues, Sakyamuni is of standing figure, showing that he has trudged a long distance to develop Buddhism from India to China. A huge relief of a well sculpted lotus flower is engraved on the dome, seedpod in the centre, petals in the outer and each leaf with honeysuckle patterns. Around the lotus are six flying musicians with vivid gestures, as if they are dancing along with the melodies of the music.

Right now we move on to the Fengxian temple, this is the symbol of Longmen Grottoes. It is the largest Buddhist niche at Longmen, 33.5 m by 38.7 m with nine massive statues. It was built in the Tang Dynasty. The most impressive figure is the statue of Vairocana Buddha sitting cross-legged on the eight-square lotus throne. It is 17.14 meters (about 56.23 feet) in total height with the head four meters (about 13 feet) in height and the ears 1.9 meters (about 6.2 feet) in length. The Buddha has a well-filled figure, a sacred and kindly expression and an elegant smile. It is said the appearance of the Buddha was produced according to Empress Wu Zetian, who donated 20,000 strings of cash on the project of building this temple.

At the sides of Vairocana there are two statues of Vairocana Buddha's disciples, Kasyapa and Ananda, wearing prudent and devout expressions. The figures of Bodhisattvas and devas can also be found in the temple. Some have dignified and genial expressions, while others are majestic and fiery. The various appearances and delicate designs are the representations of Empire Tang's powerful material and spiritual strength as well as the high crystallization of people's wisdoms.

After the Fengxian Temple is the prescription Cave known as Yao Fang dong in Chinese, it is located at the foot of the hill. There are 140 prescriptions engraved at the door way, so it got the name. And these prescriptions also made the cave famous all over the world.

Now in front of us is the Guyang Cave, this is the first cave that was made during the Northern Wei Dynasty. Thus it has a history of over 1,500 years. It is famous for the calligraphy engraved on the walls. What must be pointed out is that the famous scriptions called" The Twenty Choice of Calligraphy at Longmen", it recorded he introductions of statue making.

So much for the tour, thanks for your cooperation! See you on bus half an hour later.

    篇二:河南英文导游词红旗渠

    The Red Flag Canal

    (红旗渠)

On the sheer precipices and overhanging rocks at the east foot of the Taihang Mountains in Linzhou City, there is a man-made river, which winds 1,500km,called the Red Flag Canal. The construction of the canal started in 1960 and completed in 1969.The headwork of the canal starts from Houbiduan,Pingshun County,Shanxi Province and gets the water of Zhanghe River to Linxian Country through the irrigation ditch dug along the mountain. The general trunk is 70km long with a water-channeling cap

acity of 20cubic meters per second, which can irrigate 36,000 ha of field. The Red Flag Canal is divided into three trunk canals in the watershed. This is a huge project on which over 40 million workers toiled for almost 10 years. The Linxian people totally leveled off 50precipices,dug open 624 cliffs, strode across 274 ditches and rivers, and built many tunnels, aqueducts and culverts.

After its completion the Red Flag Canal solved the problem of water shortage for the Lincxian County and became a tourist attraction in the Linlv Mountain.Reputed by the visitors as the Man-made Milky Way and the Contemporary Great Wall,it has attracted some 40,000 people from 130 countries and regions. However what benefits the Linxian people most is the spirit developed in the course of the construction of the canal. The spirit can be summarized as

self-reliance,teamwork and hard struggle.Because of this sprit the Red Flag Canal has been listed by the state as one of the bases for patriotic education to young people. The main scenic spots of the Red Flag Canal include the General Trunk Canal,Bifurcation Gate(分水苑)and the Youth Cave.

The Bifurcation Gate or watershed is the place where the general trunk of the Red Flag Canal is divided into three sub-trunks.What we first see is a gateway in which a large relief picture depicts Red Flag Canal,The relief is 22.1 meters long and 35 meters high with the statues of some 80people.To the right of the relief is a group of six fresco pictures portraying the major parts of the project including the Youth Cave, the Confluence of Trunk No.1 of the Red Flag Canal and Heroes Canal and so on.The Nangudong Reservoir is a lake formed behind Nangudong Dam with a capacity of 55 million cubic meters of flood at full storage.

On the top of the sluice gate is the Memorial Tablet inscribed with the words “The Red Flag Canal” written by Guo Moruo.Behind the tablet is the Memorial Pavilion of the Red Flag Canal ,on the board of which are the word “The Red Flag Canal” written by Zhao Puchu.Inside the pavilion there are many inscriptions written by the Party and state leaders praising the Red Flag Canal Spirit, some pictures of the canal and tools used by the workers to dig the canal..The Youth Cave, one of the key parts of the general trunk canal,is 30km away from the bifurcation gate on a steep cliff of the Taihang Mountains. The cave is 616 meters long,5 meters high and 6.2 meters wide.this part of the mountain is dangerously steep. It took 300 young people 17 months to dig open the cliff.Life then was very hard and workers could hardly have enough to feed themselves. In order to honor these young people the cave after them.On the cave are three words of “The Youth Cave” in bold and vigorous strokes written by Guo Moruo.

Since its completion the Red Flag Canal has won acclaim from home and abroad. In the early 1970s the late Premier Zhou Enlai told the foreign friends with pride that Chinese people create two miracles after the founding of people’s Republic of China. One is the Yangtze River Bridge of

Nanjing, the other is the Red Flag Canal. After inspecting the canal in 1996 President Jiang Zemin was deeply moved and sang the praises of the constructions of the canal. He called on the people to carry forward the Red Flag Canal Sprit and wrote down the words “Keep up the practice of self-reliance and hard struggle”,which had been inscribed on the cliff of the Taihang Mountains so that people will remember the spirit and pass it on to the future generations.

The first memorial gate was built under the Hong Kong Chinese Nation International Friendship Association in 2000.

This square built in the end of 1998.It covers an area of 15000 square meters,of which 7900 square meters are covered with trees and flowers. The trees represent Chinese nationalities, and the flowers are Chinese people. This is the reason of building the square.

Well, ladies and gentlemen , Let's go to visit the Main Hall. This statue is the Yellow Emperor----the first ancestor of Chinese civilization.Look! Are they beautiful? The eight murals painting on the wall vividly describe the great achievements of the Yellow Emperor. Now I'd like to introduce several famous murals of them to you.

The third mural is Setting up an Alliance by the Yellow Emperor and Emperor Yandi.5000 years old in the territory of china centered with the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, there used to live hundreds of thousands of clans. One led by Emperor Yandi at Chenqiu was so powerful that all clans around obeyed him.Emperor Yandi invaded the clans nearby. The Yellow Emperor led the troops of Youxiong Clan and launched three fierce battles against Yandi at Banquan and defeated Yandi.Since then, they founded an alliance and laid a foundation of the Chinese nation.

The fourth mural is Crusading Against Chiyou. While Yandi and the Yellow Emperor were entering into an alliance, the Jiuli Clan rose in the east.Chiyou, the tribe leader was more like a devil and swept away all obstacles. The Yellow Emperor fought against Chiyou for nine times but could not defeat him.In the battles,Chiyou could spray fog by himself, and made people lose their bearings. In order to defeat Chiyou, the Yellow Emperor ordered Fenghou to make compass chariots to guide the directions, and broke through the fog made by Chiyou and set 8 arrays, and defeated Chiyou after 52 fights.Chiyou ran to Zhongji, but was captured and killed by Yinglong,a general of the Yellow Emperor.

Aright, please follow me.This is Making Youxiong the Capital. When the Yellow Emperor defeated Chiyou,he became renowned far and wide.Every tribe admired him so much, and elected him the head of all tribes. Then, the Yellow Emperor led his tribe to go back to his native place and issued an imperial edict to all the tribes that making Youxiong his capital, present Xinzheng City,Henan, the first capital in Chinese history.

So until now,the visit in the Native Palace of the Yellow Emperor is almost over.I think you may have some questions about the scenic spot,or you want to take some photos,so,please do remember, you will have an hour. After an hour we will gather at the gate, and make sure you'll be there on time. Then we are going to the next place.Thank you for your attention!
